Maui and a Moment of Truth

Author:
"The Kingdom of Heaven does not operate in comparisons."

This simple statement absolutely rocked my world.

In the tranquility of the surf, His voice was loud and clear.  As I was sitting on a glorious beach in Maui, the Lord was dealing with an inner hang-up that was clouding my thought life.   I was a momma, a wife, and a daughter of the most High God.  I was not a leader.  So-and-so was a leader.  They were called into ministry.  I was not.  I was a wife and mom and it was my only dream.

"The Kingdom of Heaven does not operate in comparisons."

Instantly the truth of this statement sank deep into my heart as I realized that other people's gifts didn't make mine less important.  The celebration of their gifting was, in fact, part of what was necessary for my giftings to grow.

"The Kingdom of Heaven does not operate in comparisons."

My Daddy's perspective is so very different than mine.  In our world, everything is compared: from french fries to singing voices.  We have so many television shows based on who cooks the best, plans the best, designs the best.  Unknowingly this sank in and became part of my mindset when I looked at those around me.

"The Kingdom of Heaven does not operate in comparisons."

As I pondered this glorious, freeing statement I began to see all the areas in life that I automatically compared without even realizing it.  'I like this beach better than that one.'  'I think this flower is more beautiful than the other.'  As we continued our vacation I began to look at each flower and call out its individual beauty.  Each one was amazing, and I didn't have to compare, I could simply enjoy!

"The Kingdom of Heaven does not operate in comparisons."

The transformation that this one truth wove into my heart has been miraculous.  My inner list of areas that I lack has been silenced, and now, I simply feel joy when those around me soar.  I know that Holy Spirit has once again transformed me a little bit more into the image of His Son. Let's become a people who seek out beauty for beauty's sake; in each other and in ourselves!

'Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is —his good, pleasing and perfect will.'  Romans 12:2
